COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Fort Carson soldier convicted of vehicular homicide in a crash that killed two people on a motorcycle has been sentenced to three years in prison.

A jury convicted 19-year-old Pfc. Brandon Howard in April of crashing his speeding car into 57-year-old Charles Coggins and 47-year-old Jacqueline Hansen last December.

Howard apologized to the victims’ relatives in court Friday and asked for probation. Coggins’ sister, Paula Rippie, asked the judge for the maximum six-year sentence.

Howard’s three-year sentence could be reduced if he completes a prison boot camp program.
