BOYERO, Colo.—Nine miles of Colorado’s portion of the Ports to Plains highway will be rebuilt with federal stimulus money.
Work on the $12.5 million project on U.S. Highway 40 and 287 near Boyero in east-central Colorado is scheduled to begin Tuesday. Workers will rebuild the highway in concrete and widen its shoulders.
Work will continue through October, stop for the winter and then resume again in the spring. The project won’t be done until next September.
Ports to Plains is a mostly rural, two-lane trade route that runs from Canada to Mexico, passing through the western U.S.
Eleven segments of Colorado’s portion have been rebuilt since 1996. The Colorado Department of Transportation says it wouldn’t have been able to tackle the latest work for the without the stimulus dollars.
