FLORENCE — Authorities say a campfire caused a weekend wildfire that forced the evacuation of about 200 people from three southern Colorado subdivisions.
Fremont County Sheriff James Beicker said Monday that investigators are looking at suspects but have made no arrests. The fire is fully contained, but crews are mopping up hot spots within the perimeter.
Beicker said the fire scorched 142 acres and crept to within a quarter-mile of homes in subdivisions near Florence. He said vegetation boosted by a wet summer is drying out, raising the fire danger.
