State health officials are going to report new cases of hepatitis C tied to Rose Medical Center only once a week because the investigation is not for a contagious disease or a public health emergency.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said because of staffing issues and because the Rose investigation has no “risk of the disease spreading in the community,” the public doesn’t need to take any protective measures.
Each Friday, said department spokesman Mark Salley, he will give an update on new cases tied to the investigation.
A former Rose surgical technician who has hepatitis C allegedly used hospital syringes to give herself addictive painkiller. Hospital officials suspect up to 4,700 patients who had surgery at Rose were exposed to hepatitis C.
