DENVER—Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper says tough choices are in store as the city looks to slash $120 million from its budget, cuts he says will affect all residents.
Hickenlooper offered few new details about what could be cut be during his annual “State of the City” address on Tuesday.
The city has been surveying residents about cutting costs and raising revenue. Possibilities include charging $10 a month for trash collection and cutting back on street repairs.
Hickenlooper says Denver is poised to attract new companies once the economy begins to recover, and that the city will benefit from a reputation for innovation and quality of life.
He says Denver will also be helped by the attention it got during last year’s Democratic National Convention.
