Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey was named to the Major League Soccer all-star team.

Players, coaches, general managers, media and fans voted on the group of all-stars, who will face Premier League club Everton on July 29 in Utah.

It is the first time Casey has made the all-star team. His eight goals lead the Rapids and rank third in the league.

Columbus Crew midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto led all players in combined voting, followed in order by Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan and Casey.

Eaglecrest’s Morgan commits to Wyoming.

Wyoming’s annual plucking of Colorado football talent is in full swing for the 2010 class.

The Cowboys have received a verbal commitment from Eaglecrest High School’s C.J. Morgan, according to Raptors head coach Tom Doherty. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound slot-wide receiver was second team all-Centennial League in 2009 and has been timed at 4.47 seconds over 40 yards.

Morgan is among two other local Cowboys pledges — Chatfield quarterback Sam Stratton and Niwot lineman Tyler Strong.

Area golfers shoot 73s on OU course.

Air Force golfer Tom Whitney and Zahkai Brown of Arvada each shot a 2-over-par 73 to tie for 37th place in the first round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

Jon Lindstrom of Denver shot a 76 for a tie for 90th place.

Trio lead Junior Match Play qualifying.

Jonathan Park of Meadow Hills Golf Course, Andrew Cornella of The Club at Flying Horse and Kevin Koelbel of Pinehurst Country Club each shot a 3-under-par 69 to share medalist honors in the qualifying round for the CGA Junior Match Play Championship at Spring Valley Golf Club in Elizabeth.

Donaldson second in Badwater Ultramarathon.

Littleton school teacher Jamie Donaldson was in second place among the women runners Monday evening at the second of six checkpoints in the Badwater Ultramarathon, covering the first 41 miles of the 135-mile race in 6 hours, 50 minutes. Lorie Hutchison of Salt Lake City was five minutes ahead of Donaldson, who is the defending women’s champion and course record-holder. Only five men in the field of 86 starters were ahead of Hutchison.

Top tennis tournament begins today.

The second annual Safeway Foundation Men’s Open Tennis Tournament begins today at Colorado Athletic Club at In- verness. The event includes men’s open singles and doubles, as well as a men’s pro-am event.
