FORT LUPTON, Colo.—A boating accident at Sand Hills Reservoir has injured six people.
The Weld County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened just after midnight today, when a caller reported hearing a loud boom and then a honking from the lake.
Rescuers discovered six people in a boat in the rocks near the lake. Seven adults were on board, but one left before authorities arrived. The remaining six were taken to North Colorado Medical Center, one by helicopter.
The most seriously hurt was the boat driver, a 48-year-old man, who remained in critical condition today. A 37-year-old female was in fair condition. The rest were treated and released.
None of the boaters was named. Sheriff’s Office officials say alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
