What it lacks in lumens, the handy new Hug Light (MSRP: $19.00) from ShowerTec Inc. makes up for in convenience and versatility as an around-the-camp illuminator.
With a pair of LED beams maxing out around 50 lumens, the Hug Light probably isn’t a replacement for your trusty headlamp, but the malleable steel-alloy design puts a new twist on hands-free lighting by incorporating a soft rubber-grip neck pad that allows it to hang comfortably for cooking, reading or almost any other outdoor activity at night.
At just under a half pound, the light likely isn’t burly enough to trust on a full-blown backpacking expedition. But for dedicated car campers and after-hours dog walkers, the white light is plenty bright enough to illuminate an entire newspaper at arm’s length.
