CORTEZ, Colo.—A southwest Colorado sheriff has assigned a deputy to work with farmers and ranchers on disputes over water rights, boundaries and other issues.
Montezuma County Deputy David Hune took on the role last week.
Hune, a three-year department veteran, says he volunteered for the job. He says he and Sheriff Gerald Wallace agreed it was better to have a single deputy handle agriculture-related disputes.
Hune says he hopes he can help resolve some disagreements before they land in court.
