Getting your player ready...

What Manuel Corpas’ performance Monday suggested his words revealed Wednesday. The right-hander told The Denver Post that he will undergo surgery Friday to remove bone chips from his elbow.

“I am a little nervous, but it was not getting better even after the cortisone shot,” Corpas said.

Corpas went home Monday and noticed the swelling in his elbow as he ate a late dinner. He was unavailable to pitch Tuesday, and a decision was made today to have surgery.

If all goes according to plan, he could pitch again in September. As for a replacement, it’s unclear. The Triple-A candidates include Joel Peralta, who was just sent down, Randy Flores and recently-signed Matt Herges.

Corpas is 1-3 with a 5.88 ERA in 35 games this season.

“This is something that has to be done. I am hoping I can come back and be better,” Corpas said.
