Colorado will finish in fourth place in its division this season, according to Big 12 Conference preseason football media poll released Thursday.
Nebraska was picked to win the North Division. Texas and Oklahoma were tied for the top spot in the South, with Texas gaining more first-place votes.
Former coach of CU stars dies.
Track coach Greg Fedyski, who tutored former University of Colorado runners Jorge and Ed Torres in an Illinois middle school, died Thursday in a Nebraska hospital after he was involved in an automobile accident while returning from Jorge Torres’ wedding in Colorado.
The 60-year-old Fedyski was driving home Sunday with the Torres’ mother, Maria. The car veered off the roadway, struck a post and rolled twice, according to the Colorado State Patrol in a report in the Chicago Daily Herald. Maria Torres was injured in the crash but is expected to survive. Jorge Torres declined to comment, asking for “time alone.”

Metro State cross country and track coach Pete Julian is leaving the Roadrunners to become the cross country coach at Washington State.
Julian had been the coach at Metro for four years in cross country and three years in track, starting both programs from scratch after they were disbanded in the mid-1980s.
