FRUITA, Colo.—A wildfire burning north of Fruita in the Book Cliffs area in western Colorado has grown to nearly 300 acres.

Federal officials say the fire is burning in pinon-juniper trees, oak brush and grass. No structures are threatened. It’s believed the fire was started by lightning.

Four firefighters, one Bureau of Land Management fire engine and a helicopter are monitoring the fire.

Federal land managers say they expect more lightning-sparked fires to start over the weekend.
