The Buniger fire, burning in the Book Cliffs range northwest of Fruita, spread from 115 acres this morning to 298 acres this afternoon.

The blaze is burning in a mixture of piñon, juniper, scrub oak and grass.

So far, no homes or other structures have been threatened by the wildfire.

The fire is producing substantial smoke, which is visible from the Grand Valley.

A Bureau of Land Management fire engine with a crew of four and a helicopter are monitoring the fire.
