For almost five years, a Denver dentist allegedly wrote prescriptions for two of his friends that allowed them easy access to the most powerful painkillers and strongest sedatives on the market. Named in the federal grand-jury indictment is dentist David Hoag, 49, and his friends, James Poe, 54, of Englewood and Paul Nickless, 48, of Centennial.
Between April 2004 and February 2009, Hoag allegedly wrote 416 prescriptions that were either filled by Poe or Nickless, the grand jury alleged. In return, Poe and Nickless agreed to bring back half of the drugs to Hoag for his personal use, said the indictment.
