Undoubtedly, it will be an unforgettable memory for Tour de France champion Alberto Contador.
On Sunday, he cruised down the famous Champs-Élysees Avenue in Paris to complete his second Tour win after riding 2,141 miles during the three- week race. Along the way, Contador overcame a battle with his own Astana teammates, including Lance Armstrong, who finished third.
To top it off, as the Spaniard stood atop the podium, the Danish national anthem echoed during the awards ceremony. Contador took it in stride as tour organizers were tipped off by his older brother, Fran, that the wrong anthem was played, Contador’s spokesman told The Associated Press.
“For us, it is just an anecdote. It’s no big deal,” spokesman Jacinto Vidarte said.
Organizers tried to rectify the problem by playing Spain’s anthem when Contador’s Astana team was recognized on the podium.
