Parking at the Denver Botanic Gardens just got a lot easier.

Last week, about 100 of the 320 new spaces opened in the new three-level parking structure.

They’re already filled up each day.

Another 100 spaces are expected to open in about two weeks, and the final section should be ready by the end of the summer.

“We built it to ease congestion in the neighborhood,” spokesman Will Jones said. “That’s one reason there’s no charge for parking. We want to make sure people use the parking deck.”

Its name — the Parking Structure and Colorado Garden Show Promenade — indicates the greenery that will eventually soften the concrete building. When landscaping is finished, more than 6,800 plants will grow on both sides of the structure, which is between Josephine and York streets. Recycled aluminum trellises are already up, ready for 320 vines to start twining skyward. Esplanade trees will complete the scene.
