CREEDE — Authorities say an autopsy was performed Saturday on the body of South Fork’s police chief, who was found dead in his home in Creede, in southwest Colorado.

The autopsy for 50-year-old Robert Harris was performed in El Paso County.

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Department said the death was under investigation.

Harris was found dead Thursday night, but it wasn’t immediately known who discovered his body.

He was recently named chief of police for South Fork, about 20 miles from where he lived.

Harris retired from the Army in 2004 after a 28-year career. The Associated Press
