DENVER—State Sen. Rollie Heath says he feels great and is ready to return to work a day after having surgery for esophageal cancer.

The Democrat from Boulder, a former gubernatorial candidate, had outpatient surgery Tuesday at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. Heath says his doctor discovered the tumor about two weeks ago and referred him to a doctor who is one of a handful in the country who performs the operation.

Heath plans to be at the state Capitol for the first meeting of the state Business Personal Property Tax Task Force.
