Led by Parker’s Tom Gempel, the Colorado Golf Association team moved up to finish 12th in the Morse Cup team competition Wednesday at the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship in Marana, Ariz.
Gempel’s and Steve Irwin shot a 290 as a team. The Ryder Cup-style team tournament was won by Washington at 280.
In the individual competition, Irwin is at 1-over-par 145, in 36th place. Gempel’s in 54th at 148. Zack Sucher of Mobile, Ala., leads at 132. The individual competition continues through Friday.

University of Denver freshman-to-be Kimberly Kim of Hilo, Hawaii, shot a second consecutive round of 2-under par and remained in fourth place at 4-under 140 after the second round of the Junior PGA Championship for girls at TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio.
Kim is five strokes behind 14-year-old Alexis Thompson of Florida, who shot a 68. Kim trails third-place Daniela Lendl, daughter of former tennis great Ivan Lendl, by one stroke.
CGA junior teams in 14th, 11th places.
Greeley’s David Oraee carded an even-par 70 to lead the Colorado team in the Boys Junior America’s Cup at Annandale Golf Club in Pasadena, Calif. He’s in 22nd place. The team is tied with Hawaii for 14th with one round remaining.
In the Girls Junior America’s Cup, Colorado is tied with Northern Nevada in 11th place after Denver’s Somin Lee shot a team-low 78 at the Logan Golf and Country Club in Utah. Lee is in 28th place.

Former Dartmouth head coach Bill Wilson has joined the Air Force Academy’s men’s lacrosse coaching staff as an assistant coach.
