UNC tabs Cherrington as grappling coach.
Northern Colorado assistant wrestling coach Ben Cherrington will take the reins and serve as the interim coach for the 2009-10 season.
Former coach Jack Maughan stepped down July 16 after 22 years at the helm to concentrate on his duties as director of development for the athletic department.
Cherrington has been the assistant the past two seasons after completing his college career at Boise State, where he won the NCAA title at 157 pounds in 2006. He won 20 straight matches on his way to the championship. Cherrington’s father, Cal, is the coach at Middle Park High School in Granby. Ben won three state titles wrestling for his dad and compiled a 141-3 prep record.
