EATON, Colo.—Sandra Munoz set a record at the Weld County Fair this year with six stalks of corn that towered 15 feet, 6 inches, and now she may set her sights higher.

The 17-year-old Munoz, whose family farms near the northern Colorado town of Eaton, may enter her giants in the state fair in Pueblo.

Former Colorado State University Extension agent Kathy Rickart says the state fair record is a relatively puny 13 feet, 6 inches.

For the record, Munoz is about 5-foot-1. She says she’s not sure why her corn got so tall. She says her parents’ farm was spared from hail that hit their neighbors.

The state fair runs Aug. 28-Sept. 7.
