Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce executive vice president Tom Clark used his “Clark’s Cone of Silence” blog Tuesday to break down what competitors Republic Airways Holdings and Southwest Airlines would bring to metro Denver if one is successful in acquiring Denver-based Frontier Airlines.
“Southwest is well-capitalized, financially stable and is admired for its ability to be profitable in the toughest of industries,” Clark wrote.
Global expansion and no northern headquarters would be expected under Southwest, Clark said. Southwest would keep downward pressure on fares and reduce the possibility of Denver International Airport becoming a “fortress hub” dominated by United Airlines.
If Republic is successful, Frontier probably would operate much as it does today. Clark said locations of headquarters, maintenance facilities and other administrative functions “would be shopped nationally for the best financial deal.” Ann Schrader, The Denver Post
