Alpine Search and Rescue and other Jefferson County authorities are searching for a 4-year-old boy who went missing from a store near Wellington Lake this afternoon.
The child was last seen in the Merchant Area of the lakeside community in the Pike National Forest southeast of Bailey at about 5:40 p.m.
Authorities were called about an hour later, said Jim Shires, a spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Alpine Search and Rescue volunteers are leading the search effort in the rugged, mountainous area, Shires said.
The boy has brown hair and hazel eyes and was last seen wearing a black Spider Man T-shirt, brown shorts and camouflage-design hat.
Anyone who sees the child should call local law enforcement.
