YUMA, Colo.—Members of Congress aren’t the only ones doing town-hall meetings with voters this month. Would-be congressmen are joining in.

Republican State Rep. Cory Gardner of Yuma is holding a telephone meeting with voters Tuesday night. Gardner hopes to challenge Democratic Rep. Betsy Markey, and he’s planning town-hall meetings this month to rally early support.

Congress members from both parties have been instructed to hold town-hall-style meetings during this month’s congressional recess. Many lawmakers are using the meetings to whip up support for or against health overhauls looming when Congress returns to work next month. A Markey aide says she plans regular meetings with constituents at coffee shops in the 4th Congressional District.
