WESTMINSTER, Colo.—A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing an 80-year-old King Soopers employee in Westminster.

Police say a tip led them to 26-year-old Ryan Patrick Nichols late Monday.

He’s accused of stabbing the King Soopers worker outside the supermarket early Monday morning. Police say he had been loitering in the parking lot before the stabbing.

According to police, Nichols said “Hi” as the worker walked by him at about 2:50 a.m. and then allegedly stabbed the worker in the back.

Investigator Wayne Read said the worker survived the stabbing but he didn’t know his condition. He said the attack appears to be random and unprovoked.
