BOULDER, Colo.—A Boulder woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of her husband.

Prosecutors added a “crime of violence” aspect to the charge filed Wednesday against 36-year-old Traci Housman in the Aug. 2 death of 41-year-old John Housman. Adding crime of violence doubles the maximum sentence to 32 years in prison, if convicted.

Police say the couple had been married about a year and had been drinking at the time. Housman told police that she stabbed John Housman afte he assaulted her, pushing her head into a wall several times and into a glass framed picture that broke.

Housman’s mother, Donna Lundstrom, said her daughter is innocent.
