DENVER—State lawmakers are taking a closer look at the salaries and perks paid by Pinnacol Assurance.
The issues are on the agenda Friday as a committee charged with looking at possible changes to the state-created workers’ compensation company holds its second hearing.
The panel is set to view a KMGH-TV report about Pinnacol’s expenses, including a $143,000 luxury suite at Invesco Field.
Pinnacol spokesman Pete Webb says the perks reward outside agents who sell Pinnacol policies. He says it’s a common practice in the insurance industry.
Pinnacol has its roots in a state insurance fund started nearly a century ago and pays no taxes. It’s required to provide coverage to any company that needs it but it controls its own funds, not state lawmakers.
