Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb is being considered for a State Department post that he has told one friend is in New York.

Webb did not return calls, but his former senior aide, Mike Dino, was among those interviewed by the State Department as part of its vetting process. In addition, Denver businessman and political junkie Paul Sandoval said the State Department had tried to contact him and Webb told him the position is in New York and lasts several months.

“He’s ready to go,” Sandoval said.

The State Department appoints what are known as “public delegates,” who attend events at the United Nations in New York. It’s not known whether that’s the job for which Webb is being considered.

Webb early on endorsed current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s unsuccessful presidential bid, signing on as one of her national committee co-chairs.
