On the list of Broadway shows that need no introduction, “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Cats” would rate prominent placement.
Denver Center Attractions has added short runs of touring productions of both to its 2010 lineup — “Cats,” Jan. 13-17 in the Buell Theatre, and “Fiddler,” May 18-23 in the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
Despite the near-iconic place of “Fiddler” among classic musicals, Randy Weeks, president of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, said it has been a “very long time” since a touring production of the show came to Denver.
This one offers what could be the final opportunity to see Chaim Topol, who appeared in the 1972 film version, reprise the title role.
“Cats” regularly returns to Denver, and it remains nearly as popular as ever.
“Every three to four years, there is another generation of kids who are ready to see it,” Weeks said. “It does very well every time we’ve done it.”
Only single tickets will be available for the two shows, with Denver Center Attractions subscribers receiving priority. 303-893-4100 or
