CRAIG, Colo.—Jurors heard audio of a 72-year-old Craig man describing how he killed his wife, placed her in a bathtub and cut up her body so it would be easier to move to his gold mine where investigators found her remains.
Terry Hankins is charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in the June 2007 death of 34-year-old Cynthia Hankins.
In the first full day of testimony Thursday, prosecutors played recorded audio of Hankins tell investigators that he hit Cynthia Hankins on the head with a crowbar and choked her into unconsciousness before killing her. Jurors also saw pictures of Hankins’ mutilated body.
Defense attorneys say Cynthia Hankins had a history of abusing her husband, who killed her in self defense.
