“Moon Handbooks: Denver” ($17.95, Avalon Travel), like so many guidebooks, is a snapshot of the city at the time the book was researched, and thus its greatest value for out-of-towners in the long term is to be found in the “getting around,” cultural, outdoors and other timeless information, because the restaurants and hotel bits become so quickly dated. Researched by Mindy Sink, a University of Colorado graduate who has lived on and off in the area, the book can be just as handy in the short term for locals who have yet to explore their own backyards.
