A Fort Lupton woman faces a charge of vehicular homicide after a crash Saturday afternoon in Weld County.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Angelica Bujanda, 35, was driving south of Colorado 85 near milepost 237 on the southern edge of Weld County in a 2004 Kia Sorento carrying two passengers, when she attempted to make a U-turn at about 12:40 p.m. The Kia was hit from behind by a 1987 Honda Accord driven by Crystal Herman, 32, of Brighton.

Herman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kia’s passengers — 13-year-old Alexis Trujillo and 7-year-old Ashley Salayandia, both of Fort Lupton — sustained moderate injuries.

The state patrol said Bujanda, who suffered minor injuries, was booked into the Weld County Jail facing charges of vehicular homicide, driving while license revoked as a habitual offender, driving while under the influence of alcohol, making an unsafe U-turn, failure to signal and two counts of child abuse (criminal negligence resulting in injury.)
