NEW YORK — Mets slugger David Wright was released from a hospital and put on the disabled list Sunday, one day after he was hit square on the helmet by a 94 mph fastball from San Francisco’s Matt Cain.

When asked if Wright could miss the rest of the season, New York manager Jerry Manuel said it’s “a possibility” depending on how further tests come out.

Team spokesman Jay Horwitz said the all-star third baseman was examined by a neurologist Saturday night and again Sunday morning before being sent home. Wright still had a headache and was experiencing “post-concussion symptoms,” Horwitz said.

Kuroda cleared to go home

PHOENIX — Dodgers right- hander Hiroki Kuroda was released from a hospital and cleared to fly home with the team after taking a liner off his head during the sixth inning of Saturday night’s game against the Diamondbacks.

A CT scan was negative and Kuroda’s only symptom Sunday was a mild headache, L.A. trainer Stan Conte said.

“Yes, I feel lucky. I feel lucky to be alive and to be able to get back on the mound again,” Kuroda said. “I have a slight headache. When I stand up, I feel a little dizzy sometimes.”

Footnotes.

The Yankees’ Derek Jeter passed Luis Aparicio for most hits by a shortstop, his 2,674th coming on an RBI double in the third inning against the Mariners.

• Hideki Matsui was held out of the Yankees’ lineup against the Mariners because of swelling in his balky knee and is out indefinitely.

• Cubs right-hander Carlos Zambrano is scheduled to make a rehab start for Single-A Peoria on Thursday before returning Aug. 25 against the Nationals.
