DETROIT — General Motors will step up production at two U.S. car factories this month to meet demand spawned by the federal Cash for Clunkers incentive for more fuel-efficient vehicles, the company said Monday.
The move comes as GM prepares to announce broader output changes as soon as today to respond to Clunkers program demand and signs of stability in the depressed U.S. auto market. The automaker’s latest production forecast for the third quarter called for a 40 percent reduction from a year ago.
