A modernized global-positioning-system satellite designed and built by Lockheed Martin in Newtown, Pa., was successfully launched Monday from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on a Centennial-based United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket.
The satellite is the last in a series of eight GPS IIR-M spacecraft that Lockheed built for the U.S. Air Force. The satellites will be used by military and civilian customers.
