A sewage-line break in the basement of the Colorado Judicial Building has forced the closure of the building, which houses both the Colorado Supreme Court and the Colorado Court of Appeals.
Colorado Supreme Court Justice Mary Mullarkey ordered closure this morning until further notice.
Jon Sarche, spokesman for the Colorado Judicial Branch, said that break caused some water to gather in the basement. He said the water supply for the entire building, located at 2 E. 14th Ave., had to be turned off.
Oral arguments in two cases that were scheduled to be heard by the Court of Appeals at 1:30 p.m. today were postponed, said Rob McCallum, another spokesman.
The building houses the courtrooms of the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court as well as the chambers for the state Supreme Court justices, the Court of Appeals judges and staff attorneys and law clerks.
The building also is home to a very large legal library.
Sarche said officials hope the repairs and cleanup would be finished by the end of the day.
