DENVER—Furloughs could be in store for employees of the Colorado state legislature.

House and Senate leaders ordered cuts Monday to trim about $1 million from the legislature’s budget. The savings include the possibility of furloughs or lowered salaries for about 300 people who work for the legislature. The final decisions are left up to legislative department heads.

The plan also calls for cutting out-of-state travel expenses for lawmakers and delaying some computer upgrades.

On Tuesday, Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter plans to announce a budget for next year that will slash hundreds of millions in state spending.
