Burton Baton by Dogfish Head Craft Brewing

$16.48 per four-pack

Delaware’s Dogfish Head, founded in 1995, is one of the nation’s most revered craft brewers. The late beer writer Michael Jackson once called it “America’s most interesting and adventurous small brewery.” Among its “Occasional Rarities” is the luscious Burton Baton, in limited supplies in stores now, an oak-aged India Pale Ale that packs a rare-for-summer wallop of 10 percent alcohol by volume. You’ll want to savor this one slowly, with its hoppy nose with a hint of apple and hop-infused flavor that jumps with grapefruit, warms with oak and vanilla and finishes with an assertive bitter note. It’s rich and smooth in the mouth, and its color is an elegant clear copper, with a medium-tight cream-colored head that leaves rings of lacing down the glass.
