A former home nurse in Adams County faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree assault on an at-risk adult, state and local prosecutors said Tuesday.
Tammera Deane Henritze, 38, is accused of neglecting and sometimes abusing a mentally compromised 65-year-old woman, while bilking Medicaid for the cost of the care, prosecutors said.
Henritze will be sentenced in October.
After a call from Henritze’s landlord last year, Adams County sheriff’s deputies found the elderly woman locked in a bedroom “in squalid conditions, surrounded by rotting food, urine and feces, and severely malnourished,” according to a statement from prosecutors.
The woman was placed in a nursing home, where her health has improved, according to the statement. Joey Bunch, The Denver Post
