BOULDER, Colo.—The police department at the University of Colorado in Boulder is adding six officers and increasing late-night patrols to step up security on campus.

The renewed focus on safety follows a series of assaults between late October and early December last school year. University officials say four CU students reported sexual assaults and two reported physical assaults.

The police department says adding officers will them to use a “platoon strategy,” with up to 10 patrolling between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.

University officials looked at potential gaps in safety. As a result, CU is finding better late-night parking options, making sure students have rides home after dark, improving maintenance of lights and increasing its police presence.
