GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—It’s still just a one-candidate race on the Republican side in the 3rd Congressional District.

Doug Thompson of Grand Junction said earlier this week that he would announce his candidacy Wednesday, but instead said he won’t run. That leaves Garfield County District Attorney Martin Beeson as the sole Republican making a bid for the seat held by Democrat John Salazar.

Thompson says he was unwilling to put his family through what he said would be a dirty campaign season.

Salazar first won election in 2004. The 3rd District covers western Colorado and includes Pueblo.
