SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A federal judge has ruled that doctors in South Dakota must tell women seeking abortions that the procedure terminates a human being’s life.

U.S. District Judge Karen Schreier ruled Thursday on a lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota after an informed-consent law passed in 2005 that requires disclosures.

Schreier ruled against the state by concluding that pregnant women do not need to be told abortion increases the likelihood of suicide or that they have an existing relationship with the fetus.
