OMAHA, Neb.—Deliberations in the murder trial of former Nebraska running back Thunder Collins are expected to resume on Monday.
The case was sent Friday to the Douglas County jury, which briefly deliberated before being dismissed for the weekend.
The 29-year-old Collins faces first-degree murder and related charges stemming from a September 2008 shooting that left one man dead and another seriously wounded.
Prosecutors built their case on the theory that the shooting was the result of a botched drug deal. They described Collins as the mastermind behind a plan to rob the two men, who’d traveled from California.
Collins has denied involvement in the alleged drug deals and murder.
He played for the Cornhuskers from 2000 to 2002.
