DENVER—Denver Zoo officials say a gorilla got into an indoor service area for a few minutes but quickly returned to his pen when a keeper opened a door for him.

Zoo spokeswoman Tiffany Barnhart says the gorilla was never at risk of escaping or confronting visitors. No one was hurt.

Barnhart says the gorilla, a 12-year-old named Charlie, pushed through a wire mesh barrier on his indoor holding area Thursday afternoon.

When the zoo keeper saw him, the keeper opened the door and Charlie went back into his holding area. Barnhart says Charlie was out of his holding area for only about three minutes.

Charlie was unhurt. Barnhart says he’s “resting comfortably in his bedroom.”

The zoo keeper’s name wasn’t released.
