Friday night’s series opener against the Giants started going wrong before it started. Troy Tulowitzki, whose 18 home runs since June 8 are tied for fifth in the major leagues, didn’t play after experiencing flu-like symptoms. “I’m very hopeful it’s a 24-hour thing,” Rockies manager Jim Tracy said. “A lot of what we have to bear in mind is how bad is it from the standpoint of a dehydration thing. . . . If it’s tomorrow or if it’s the day after tomorrow, you need to make sure he’s completely hydrated and not put yourself in harm’s way. . . . If he ends up pulling a hamstring or something like that, that would really put you in a tough spot.”
Running on fumes.
Before the game, Tracy was monitoring setup man Rafael Betancourt and closer Huston Street to see if they needed a day off. Betancourt had made 12 appearances since being acquired from Cleveland on July 23, and Street pitched three times in the three-game sweep of the Nationals in Washington.
