Colorado’s summer weather continued its unusual behavior today when the metro region tied a heat record for the date, just a week after tying a record for cool weather.

On Aug. 16, the low of 47 degrees tied a record set in 1978, according to weather records.
The average daily high for Denver in August is 86 degrees. The average low is 55.3 degrees.
August has been drier than normal, but the Front Range was way above average for rainfall this summer, 15.27 inches compared to the average 11.67 inches for this point in the year. By this date a year ago, the region had netted just 7.31 inches of precipitation, according to the Weather Service.
