University of Colorado senior Justin Bardgett shot an even-par 70 on the Cedar Ridge Country Club course Monday and is tied for sixth after the first round of the U.S. Amateur Championship in Oklahoma.

Tim Jackson, of Germantown, Tenn., shot a 2-under 68 at Southern Hills Country Club to take the lead. The 50-year-old, who led the U.S. Senior Open through two rounds this summer, was the lone golfer in the field of 156 at Southern Hills to beat par, while four golfers managed to shoot 1-under at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow.

Tom Whitney of the Air Force Academy shot a 71 to tie for 12th place. Aurora’s Gunner Wiebe is tied for 25th at 2-over, and Broomfield’s Steve Ziegler is tied for 42nd at 3-over. It will likely take a score of 147 or better after two rounds to move into match play.

CHL’s Eagles sign two.

The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League signed two players to their preseason roster: Ryan McLeod, a forward who played last season for the Rocky Mountain Rage and was CHL rookie of the year in 2006-07; and forward Dan Welch, a former eighth-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings. McLeod last season scored 12 points in 11 games against the Eagles while playing for Rocky Mountain and New Mexico.
