DENVER—Former congressman Bob Beauprez (BOW’-pray) has decided against running for the U.S. Senate.
The Republican said in letters to supporters Monday that “having been presented with the potential” to serve in the Senate, he considered it. But he said he and his wife, Claudia, are working with their son in a new family business.
Beauprez was elected to Congress in 2002. He lost the governor’s race in 2006 to Democrat Bill Ritter.
Republicans running for the Senate include Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier and Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck.
Democrat Michael Bennet is also in the race. He was appointed to the Senate this year to finish the term of Ken Salazar, who resigned to become Interior secretary.
