Former Gov. Bill Owens doesn’t want anyone to think he was out celebrating the appointment of Kelly Brough to the top job at the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.
Owens, a Republican, said he respects Brough, a Democrat, for the job she has done during the past three years as Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s chief of staff and that he wishes her well.
But he said he wanted to set the record straight about a story in Sunday’s Denver Post saying he and fellow Republican businessman David McReynolds had “celebratory” drinks at the Denver ChopHouse with Brough.
He said in an e-mail that when he ran into Brough and political consultant Maria Garcia Berry at the restaurant Aug. 7, he and McReynolds had just come from a game at Coors Field and were celebrating the Rockies’ victory over the Cubs.
He added that he is “concerned at Kelly’s lack of business experience and close ties to Democratic elected officials and consultants.”
