LONGMONT, Colo.—Police say a 13-year-old Longmont girl whose ear had to be sewn back together after a fight will be cited on suspicion of assault because investigators believe she started the altercation.

The girl’s mother has said she was attacked by a 15-year-old girl at a city park Friday night. But investigators say the 15-year-old was defending herself and suffered bite wounds and scratches.

Police said Monday they were working with the 13-year-old girl’s attorney to serve a municipal court summons. They say the older girl won’t be cited.

The Longmont Times-Call has quoted the mothers of both girls accusing the other girl of starting the fight.
